A behind the scenes look at how I prepare to interview guests on the Working Class Creatives podcast. https://www.workingclasscreatives.com

After someone agrees to an interview, I'll work out the scheduling with them, generally a month or so in advance of when the podcast episode airs. I liked to have a few eps lined up and ready to go in case I get sick or busy or am otherwise occupied. When I was launching the podcast I was setting up interviews every day for weeks, but as long as I have a 2-3 episode buffer I can get by with two interviews a month.

After that I send them a short set of preliminary questions so I know the basics of who they are and what they're about, in their words. I don't schedule interviews with people at random, but doing some extra research never hurts.

On the day of the interview we start with some idle chatter to settle in, especially with nervous guests, and so I can get an idea of their speech patterns and how much coaxing I'll have to do.
