How Important is Story in a Game?
Finally circling back around to this and discussing just how much story can affect a game. Do they need it, can it save or kill the experience, and can it even keep new players out? After all, the point of a game is to play it, so should some scrolling text really make that much of a difference? As a fan of narrative, I have a lot of thoughts on the subject, more than I can really fit in a single video, but this is at least a start. And because we do mostly Mega Man stuff here, that's where I'll be pulling a lot of my examples from, though there's certainly going to be plenty of special guests.
My brother seemed to think that I used mostly platformers, while staying kind of light on RPGs, but I think there's a decent mix.
