How Joaquin Phoenix Was Almost BATMAN for Darren Aronofsky's Batman: Year One
66In a new interview with Empire, director Darren Aronofsky opened up about the scrapped big-screen Batman Year One adaptation he was developing with Frank Miller in the early 2000s, revealing that he once pushed to have Joaquin Phoenix play Batman. Warner Bros., the studio behind the DC franchise, apparently had a different tone in mind for the movie and their Dark Knight.
“The studio wanted Freddie Prinze Jr. and I wanted Joaquin Phoenix,” said Darren Aronofsky, 51. “I remember thinking, ‘Uh oh, we’re making two different Batman films here.’ That’s a true story.
