M.S. Thejkumar became India's 50th GM and Karnataka's first in September 2017 at the age of 36. A phenomenal achievement for a man who has never been trained formally by a coach!

Thej's life is filled with some amazing ups and downs. When he was around the rating of 2350 instead of making IM norms, he made his three GM norms back to back and raced to 2480! This was in 2009! Everyone thought he would become India's 20th GM. But as things transpired, Thej had to wait for not one, not two but a full eight years before he could have the letters GM attached in front of his name.

This is a story of grit, perseverance and patience. This is the story of M.S. Thejkumar.
