How much performance gains will adding LOD management to my track assets/models give me - BeamNG
This test is showing on a 2080 super and i9-10850k
-For this test I use a single track object with 1.5 million polygons
-For a 2nd test I use 3 objects each with 1.5 million polygons
-The object has a LOD change that reduces polys to 7,000.
-There is also a billboard LOD when the object is even farther away.
** GPU goes from 78% usage to 67% with one object swapping LODS
***GPU goes from 87% usage down to 63% with 3 objects swapping LODS
-CPU did not see anything.
-I show how to do the LOD with billboards.
-Testing not shown did not indicate any performance change with the absence of a collision mesh. Being they are invisible it would not affect gpu performance. However, if a collision mesh is high polygons, the CPU will struggle calculating all the areas the tires come in contact with. That I know from making things in the past.
