How Not To Do A Creepypasta Reading
3Here's an example of a shitty pasta reading. It breaks three of the most important rules of a good reading:
- Performer obviously hasn't rehearsed this shit and keeps breaking character, mumbling, and/or just isn't trying. At least I managed not to stumble over or mispronounce words.
- Performer obviously didn't bother editing either.
- Inappropriate music blares in background to ruin the mood of the story as much as possible.
The only rule I didn't break was #4: performer must know how to fucking read.
Keep in mind this is still better than a lot of other readings on youtube, and it only took me an hour to put this piece of shit together. Imagine how little time and effort other readers are investing. Avoid these pitfalls: rehearse, don't use stupid music choices (or any music at all), and just put some fucking effort into your work. If it's shit, DON'T UPLOAD IT. Do it again, and do it right the next time. If you upload shit work, you not only hurt the piece you're performing, you're also making yourself a laughingstock.
Oh yeah, and ask author permission before doing a reading wherever possible. Don't be an entitled asshole.
