How PUBG Changed the Battle Royale Genre | Changing the Game | Ars Technica
Brendan Greene, perhaps better known as PlayerUnknown, helped popularize the "Battle Royale" video game genre with his massive hit shooter, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Using ARMA 3 as a base, Greene was able to create mods with gameplay based on the Japanese cult classic movie "Battle Royale." Games like Fortnight, Call of Duty and Battlefield have all incorporated their own "Battle Royale" game modes, making it the world's most popular gameplay mode.
