If you think about it Yakuza was in pretty much the same situation Virtua Fighter is today, 10 years ago, but through a bit of luck and a really good game like Yakuza 0, they managed to pull it off.
Now It's Virtua Fighter's turn to rise to popularity again imo and I'll explain why.

Also I forgot to mention Dead or Alive and Soul Calibur as my favourite fighting games growing up, even thoughh I mostly referred to those that I played when I was in my early to mid teens.
