How Should A Game Handle Failure
The Dark Souls series and its many cousins- Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, and Demons Souls, are notorious for their handling of player death and failure. Their consequences are severe, and that idea has been propagated through other games like Hollow Knight and Nioh. Roguelikes tend to take a different, equally severe route, but some games focus on player comfortability over potential frustration. Most games will set difficulty and adjust to failure in different ways, but when implementing systems that react to said failure, there are a few rules that are usually important to follow
