Today, we're going to teach you how to easily create accented capital letters on Windows, because Microsoft doesn't really like the French language.

The first solution is the simplest: simply copy and paste the capital letter with an accent you want, using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V after selecting it. It's a bit lazy, but effective.

The second solution requires a little more memory, but it will allow you to create accented letters for the rest of your life. Each accent on Windows corresponds to a code that you can remember and that is activated with the Alt key on your keyboard. • Alt + 144 → É
• Alt + 0200 → È
• Alt + 0192 → À
• Alt + 0202 → Ê

And if you need rarer accents, like Ì, Ò, Ý, Ô, or Ü, you can type Alt + 0204, Alt + 0210, Alt + 0221, Alt + 0212, or Alt + 0220.

If you don't have a numeric keypad on your computer (for example, on a laptop), things get a little more complicated, but don't panic, there are solutions.
• First solution: copy and paste, as explained at the beginning.
• Second solution: press Windows + R, type charmap in the dialog box that opens, then click OK. You'll then have access to the full list of characters to select and copy and paste the one you want.

The last method works on both desktop and laptop computers. It involves downloading a small program called WinCompose and installing it on your computer. Once activated, it waits for you to press the Alt Gr key (often located to the right of the space bar), then interprets a key sequence.

For example:
• Alt Gr + E + ' → É
• Alt Gr + C + , → Ç

It then combines characters to create the accented letter. WinCompose is very useful for creating accents, but also for many other special letters: it offers over 4,000 sequences, which you can display by right-clicking on the small logo in the bottom right corner and selecting "Show Sequences."

With this small program, you'll quickly learn to create uppercase accents in Windows, and it will become very natural for you.
