How to Beat Mortimer Freeze Cuphead
7Mortimer Freeze is one of the new bosses in the upcoming Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course DLC, fought in Snow Cult Scuffle. He was first revealed in the teaser trailer, though in his second phase as the Snow Monster. In the third trailer, his last phase reveals to be in a giant snowflake.
Appearance:
Mortimer Freeze is a plump old man with pale blue skin that looks frozen and a ice beard and brows that looks a bit melted, he has a long pointy nose and large ears. He wears a purple wizard hat with a band. His robe is also purple and are ragged with patches on the arms, it is held up by yellow buttons. His pants are lavender also with some patches and he has yellow shoes.
The Snow Monster is snowman with a rather round body shape, with three yellow buttons on its belly, it seems to have a beard and inside its mouth and eyes are hollow. It wears an orange bucket as a hat and it is chained up by a handcuff. The snowflake is a large flat snowflake made of ice with 2 glowing eyes, pointy nose, and mouth. He can turn his points into either an arm or a hand crank.
Personality:
Not much is known about him, but according to Maja, the best way to describe him is a cult leader.
Intro:
Mortimer Freeze is first seen sitting on his throne before he flies into the arena. His hat gets knocked off when he flies through the ice gate, so he swoops down and ice skates his way to grab his hat before he extends his legs up, puts his hat on, and flies up.
Phase 1:
As the battle commences, his movesets are:
He extends his cape to summon four living icicles that protrudes from the ground before run around the battlefield. The player can shoot at the icicles.
He brings out a giant orange whale from his hat to smash the player.
He pulls out his magic crystal ball and shoots cards at the player. One of the cards can be parried.
For the entirety of this phase, he is airborne, requiring the player to shoot upwards. After taking enough hits, Mortimer will eventually stop, pulls out his bell and rings it to lower the snow monster on him before the snow monster's stomach closes in on Mortimer and breaks of its chains to drop down into the arena.
Phase 2:
In this phase, Mortimer Freeze transforms into the Snow Monster. His moveset:
He has a slam attack that causes a snow shockwave as a distraction and spikes to protrude from the ground.
He can transform into a refrigerator and shoot out ice cubes in arcs. These ice cubes break into smaller ice cubes which bounce to both sides before the freezer opens up and releases popsicles with wings into the air. The popsicles themselves that swoops down towards the player. The player can shoot at the popsicles as they swoop down. One of the popsicles can be parried.
He can roll to the other side of the arena at high speeds. Occasionally, he can roll back at forth two times before jumping to the other side.
After taking enough damage, the Snow Monster starts shivering, before becoming bloated and forming something inside. His top half bursts apart, releasing Mortimer Freeze in his final form. The bottom half runs off-screen, as five platforms form for the player to head towards the next phase. The Snow Monster's bucket can be seen falling from the top.
Final Phase
During the phase, the battlefield completely changes into five platforms rotating around a center as the player climbs up to them. Mortimer Freeze transformed as an 8-point snowflake falling like one in the background, lick his fingers as if he is sharpening them, before proceeding to fight.
During this phase, Mortimer Freeze is capable of moving to the other side of the battlefield just like in Phase 2 and flipping himself over, which changes how most of his attacks come out. The following attacks known include:
Mortimer Freeze rolls up his mouth with a crank, before popping one of his eyes out. The eye periodically fires a vertical laser beam, and curves back towards Mortimer Freeze's mouth.
Mortimer Freeze "opens" up his snowflake form and reveal his hands, as he creates buckets that split into three moon projectiles as they hit the edge of the screen. This attack is aimed slightly higher or lower depending on whether or not Mortimer Freeze is flipped over. One of the buckets can be parried.
Mortimer Freeze turns his mouth into an ice cream stand, and he cycles around the platform once as an ice cream vendor spirit. This attack creates four snow cones that are aimed inwards. It is unknown whether or not the Mortimer's spirit can actually do damage, and if the attack has any changes if Mortimer is currently flipped over.
Once he has taken enough damage, the snowflake form melts, revealing a shivering and defeated Mortimer, who has a thermometer in his mouth and a water bag on his head. If he is flipped over, he will turn right side up before melting.
