I will say do the MCSA: Windows Server 2016 Certification and please don't do the MCSE: Productivity.
First the easy way to become a Desktop Engineer or IT Engineer is do the BIT or the Bachelor in Information Technology Degree.
I will say stay away from the IT Degree and Save your money by doing the Information Technology Certification.
Also you need build your PC Lab and you buy cheap laptops or netbooks to make such PC Labs for your hands on experience.
The Job of a Desktop Engineer is very similar to PC Support Technician but at higher level.
