Watch a dentist's instructions on how to successfully brush a toddler's teeth. *(hint: scroll down and I'll tell you the secret key at #7). Some points:

1) I like to use an electronic brush with a round head, but manual brushes work well, too.
2) Fluoride toothpaste is important, but your child must prove that they can spit it out. Frequently swallowing fluoride in toothpaste is bad!
3) Use an amount of toothpaste between the size of a pea and a grain of rice.
4) Take your time. Spend at least 30-60 seconds brushing to cover every surface of every tooth.
5) Don't forget to brush the tongue! Bacteria hide in the papilla on your tongue, which causes bad breathe!
6) DO NOT RINSE WITH WATER AFTER BRUSHING. Seriously. Don't do it. Just spit several times and walk away unless you rinse with mouthrinse. And even if you do that, don't rinse with water afterwards.
7) Start your child early. No, not early in the day. Start brushing their teeth when they're babies. If you do this consistently, brushing their teeth will be an easy routine by the time they reach toddler age.
