To change your active status on Facebook Messenger, follow these steps:

Open the Facebook Messenger app on your device.
Tap on your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
Tap on "Active Status" under your name.
Toggle the switch next to "Show when you're active" to the off position (grey).
This will hide your active status on Messenger, and you will no longer appear as "active" to your contacts. Keep in mind that if you choose to hide your active status, you also won't be able to see the active status of other people.
