Connecting PC case fans, AIO fans, and RGB fans can be a bit daunting, especially for first-time builders. However, it's actually quite simple, and with a little bit of guidance, you'll be up and running in no time.

PC Case Fans

PC case fans are typically connected to the motherboard using a 3-pin or 4-pin fan header. 3-pin fan headers can only control the fan speed, while 4-pin fan headers can also control the fan's PWM (pulse-width modulation) signal. This allows the motherboard to more intelligently control the fan speed, resulting in quieter and more efficient operation.

To connect a PC case fan to your motherboard, simply plug the fan's 3-pin or 4-pin connector into a fan header. Be sure to match the polarity of the connector with the polarity of the fan header. You can usually find this information in the motherboard's manual.

AIO Fans

AIO (all-in-one) fans are typically connected to the motherboard using a 4-pin fan header and a SATA power connector. The 4-pin fan header controls the fan speed, while the SATA power connector provides power to the fan and the pump.

To connect an AIO fan to your motherboard, simply plug the fan's 4-pin connector into a fan header and the fan's SATA power connector into a SATA power connector on the power supply. Be sure to match the polarity of the connectors with the polarity of the fan header and SATA power connector. You can usually find this information in the motherboard and power supply manuals.

RGB Fans

RGB (red, green, and blue) fans are typically connected to the motherboard using a 3-pin or 4-pin ARGB (addressable RGB) header. 3-pin ARGB headers can only control the brightness of the LEDs, while 4-pin ARGB headers can also control the color of the LEDs.

To connect an RGB fan to your motherboard, simply plug the fan's 3-pin or 4-pin ARGB connector into an ARGB header. Be sure to match the polarity of the connector with the polarity of the ARGB header. You can usually find this information in the motherboard manual.

Once you have connected all of your fans, you can use the BIOS or UEFI to control the fan speed and RGB lighting.
