This is the method I use to copy photos from my iPhone to Windows 10. I don't use the Windows 10 Photos application because I find it fails me frequently.

Part of the process for working with Photos and Movies between your iPhone and your Windows 10 is turning on (or off) the file format settings for compatibility between Mac and PC. For Windows, setting that to Automatic forces your iPhone to convert the native HEIC to JPG during the copy process. Whats interesting is how that conversion during copy can sometimes fail and it'll stop you from copying.

In this video, I show you how to work around that issue by setting it to "Keep Original" for the files that crash your the iPhone conversion layer.
