For that little performance boost, using the free built-in Windows Defragmenter is worth it. The improvements you'll get are too small to be noticed most of the time on empty drives, but on disks that are more close to capacity, the performance boost can be noticeable.

The Windows Disk Defragmenter only works on one drive at a time. To speed up the process, you can defrag multiple disks using some simple, free software. Check out my tutorial on that, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkRd_ljnmek
