Many apps on your Mac use notifications to let you know about events, updates, or changes. Notifications appear briefly in the top-right corner of the desktop or stay there until you close them.
The Messages app on Mac works exactly like its iPhone and iPad counterpart, allowing you to send iMessages to other Apple devices. If you’d rather keep your messages separate, you can turn off Messages on macOS following these instructions.
These instructions will work for Catalina, but you might find the steps vary for older versions of macOS. This will only disable iMessages and SMS messages (if you have an iPhone) on your Mac, but you can also disable iMessage on an iPhone or iPad if you want to.
For the most part, the iMessage feature on your Mac can be super convenient, allowing you to stay connected to your texts even when you're away from your phone. Plus, you can sync your texts across all of your Apple devices through iCloud, and never miss a message.
However, if you're like me, the constant ping of message notifications can be distracting when you're trying to get work done. Thankfully, it's simple enough to either turn off your iMessage on your Mac, or at least silence its push notifications.
This tutorial will apply for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook Mini's running the macOS operating system.
