How to Disable or Enable Smooth Edge of Screen Fonts [Tutorial]
From Windows XP to Windows 10, Microsoft has improved the way Windows displays fonts. The smooth fonts introduced in Windows 7 – also continued in Windows 10/8, having an appealing and smart look.
Font smoothing is used by default in Windows to make the jagged edges of text look smoother and more readable.
This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable font smoothing for your account in Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10.
By default, Windows 7 makes text easier to read on screen using what Microsoft calls "ClearType", generically known as "font smoothing" or "anti-aliasing". Without it, most fonts have jagged edges, making them much harsher looking. With ClearType, the corner of each letter's "glyphs" uses semi-transparent pixels to make them more rounded. Possible downsides of this technology include demands on the graphics card / GPU, and font problems.
