[How To] Downgrade Slim PS3 from 4.76 to 3.55 Firmware Using E3 Flasher Tutorial (Part 2 of 4)
This is the second video of a 4 part series that shows you how to downgrade a slim PS3 that is NOR chip compatible with the E3 flasher.
In today's video, I will show you how to apply new thermal paste, apply E3 flasher, verify and patch dumps, and finally flash the patched dump back to the NOR chip.
Part 1 is a disassemble video: Link: https://youtu.be/zhe2gOdAKoo
Part 3 will be reassemble the PS3. Link: https://youtu.be/Deuy8xNguRU
Part 4 will be the final firmware steps using usb thumb drive and we will go from OFW 4.76 down to OFW 3.55. Link: https://youtu.be/Sd4nLdDvcEs
This is the continuation of good times!
Tips to prevent soft bricking or YLOD during the downgrade process:
1) Make sure both sides of E3 flasher clip is flush with motherboard. This may require shaving both sides of the E3 flasher clip down. See video reference below in next section on how I did that.
2) Even with using a table clamp type fixture to hold the E3 flasher clip down to the motherboard, it is possible you may have the clamp a little bit off center, which does not give even pressure to all the NOR chip pins.
To prevent a flashing issue (due to NOR chip heating up and possibly moving the flash flip), use a small coin like an American quarter or similar to give even pressure distribution across the top surface area of the E3 flasher clip.
3) When securing the clamp, don't go too hard or you will damage the NOR chip and the E3 flasher clip. You just want it to be snug with the coin.
Other tips will be added here as time goes on.
