How To Enable or Disable Scroll Inactive Windows in Windows 11

Windows 11 introduced a feature I’ve been waiting years for: the ability to hover over an inactive window and scroll up and down with the scroll wheel. If you’d rather disable this, you can do so in Windows’ settings.

By default, you can scroll inactive windows opened on the Desktop in Windows 11. This behavior can be annoying for some users, because they can accidentally scroll the wrong window's contents and not realize it. Here is how to disable the Scroll Inactive Windows feature in Windows 11.

One of the native features of Windows 11 is the ability to scroll inactive windows by just hovering over such a window with the mouse pointer and then using the mouse wheel. The contents of the inactive window will be scrolled. For example, if you have an inactive Notepad window with some text, that text will be scrolled. The focus will not change and remain in the current active window.

Issues addressed in this tutorial:
scroll inactive windows when i hover over them
scroll inactive windows not working
scroll inactive windows when i hover over them excel
scroll inactive windows not working with excel
scroll inactive windows when i hover over them registry
scroll inactive windows when i hover them
scroll inactive windows when i hover over them not working
scroll inactive windows when i hover over them not working in excel
turn on or off

Windows 11 includes a built-in feature to let you scroll inactive windows by just hovering over them with the pointer without your currently active window losing focus.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off scroll inactive windows when hovering over them for your account in Windows 11.

This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 11 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, and Samsung.
