I've always had problems getting into my power armor.
Most of the time there is an error that makes my character stand behind my power armor and I can only turn around.
I can then choose to fast travel to a location, then fast travel back to where I wanted to use my power armor.

But then I have tried this method for some time and I have not experienced any problems so far.

So use this method, step into your power from the front, every time.

If you have other experiences or have already done it as I do, but it doesn't work for you, but you found another method that works.
