For this trick go to the "Sling Pod Galaxy: A Very Sticky Situation." Go through the level till the end and then purposefully die. You can collect actual 1-Ups in the level and by collecting 50 Star Bits, so you won't actually get Game Over. After dying you will respawn mid-level. Continue collecting Star Bits and dying at the end until you are ready to leave, then finish the level and repeat as needed. A max of 999 Star Bits can be collected per level playthrough.
