Ghost of Tsushima was already renowned for its breathtaking beauty, and the Director's Cut only serves to enhance that beauty further. Jin Sakai's journey is a captivating tale of redemption set in an open-world adventure where players are free to explore vast landscapes, from sprawling rice fields tended by diligent farmers to ancient temples adorned with perpetual showers of cherry blossoms. Every moment presents an opportunity to delve into the game's immersive photo mode, allowing players to craft their own visual tributes to this virtual rendition of Japan. Returning to this world, even after a brief hiatus, proved to be an immensely enjoyable experience for me.
Having already achieved platinum status in the original game, my focus shifted to the new expansion introduced in the Director's Cut: Iki Island. This standalone adventure, accessible after completing the initial act, transports players to a captivating new locale besieged by the Mongol Empire. With my affairs on Tsushima settled, I embarked on a new quest, one that delves deeper into Jin Sakai's character and offers a more nuanced critique of the Samurai code and the notion of honor than the main storyline ever achieved. However, it's regrettable that the story missions on Iki Island are somewhat brief, relegating the island to a place characterized by collectible-centric tasks rather than substantial narrative depth.
