Do not run the game in any compatibility mode. Just run as an Administrator.

To get the game to run better, set nfs.exe's affinity in Task Manager in the Details tab to no more than 2 CPUs. The game runs oddly with more than 2, which if you have a modern PC you will need to do this everytime you start the game up if you want a smoother experience.
