install windows on my Asus laptop. I downloaded the installation media and installed Windows to my USB drive 32GB. I set the priority to my USB drive. Enabled legacy boot, disabled secure boot then I started with my installation.
it boots from the USB drive and I click on "install now" then what happens is that it says "setup is starting" and it says there. I waited for an hour but it didn't go to the next step. I can still move the mouse cursor though.
I deleted the media file three times and redid the same steps three times, but the problem still exists.
This is not the first time I try to install Windows from a USB drive, I have done it multiple times in the past for friends and I never encountered this problem before.
I did all I can to get it go work. is there any solution or an explanation as to why this is happening. Thanks
Note; I had Windows 10 on my laptop before but it was corrupted so I had to do a fresh install and now I'm stuck.
Micrometer sold me the disk as an OEM, and tells me it will not be tied to my MBA permanently. (I don't think that is true.)
I put the disk into my drive, and restart my computer.
I load from disk.
First menu, choose language.
Second menu, do I want to install now or repair?
I choose install now.
Third screen, "Setup is starting..."
It's will sit there until I decide to restart. It does nothing till I do. It has sat there for more than 3 hours.
I have tried also installing with all extra peripherals disconnected.
I have exchanged the disk thinking I got the one in a million faulty disk.
Issue persist.
It has been postulated to me by MicroCenter that a new disk, or even retail version on USB will give the same issue. They said the Hard drive needs to be cleared first. I told them that I never needed to do so before with any clean install.
Do I need to erase my HDD to install Windows 10?
Should I get the retail version because it is my understanding that if I install oem, and decide to change my motherboard I will be forced to by another copy of windows?
Am I doing anything wrong with the clean install?
