How to FIX Windows Update Errors 0x80073701 and 0x8009001D Using DISM

If you are having problems with either of the error messages above, or any Windows Update issue these commands can be very helpful.

Commands and descriptions

Step 1
Anaylsis
Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Step 2

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
(checks for any corrupted files in the Windows Image)

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
(Restores the corrupted files if errors found in ScanHealth)

sfc.exe /scannow
(runs system file checker)

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
(Cleans the component store)

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /ResetBase
(This will remove all the unnecessary components in the store)

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup /SPSuperseded
(This will reduce space, but you can't roll back after the current version or service pack)

Step 3
Reboot system and check for updates
