In this tutorial we’ll look at what a Standard Instrument Departure is and I’ll show you how to setup the FMC, Navigational Aids and MCP to fly a SID accurately.

We’re departing from RW25L in Barcelona (LEBL) in the latest version of the ZIBO MOD (3.26b) as we prepare for a long sector to Keflavik in Iceland.

Today we’re flying the GRAUS 1F which is a conventional SID based on ground based navigational aids. This way we can observe the departure using raw data navigation as we follow the lateral path in LNAV.

As we fly the departure I will explain exactly what the aircraft is doing and how LNAV overlays the ground based navigational aids whilst flying the magic magenta line!

In this tutorial I will also be utilising the excellent simlink feature from Navigraph. This way we can carefully monitor our progress on the SID.
