V1, BANG! ROTATE! ENGINE FAILURE!

The V1 cut is something line crew must practice every 6 months in the simulator as it’s the most critical speed at which an engine can fail. A challenging maneuverer which requires good coordination, a sound understanding of aircraft systems and knowledge of the appropriate memory items and QRH.

Today we’re flying the PMDG 737 NGX from Gatwick on a planned 3-hour sector to Corfu which will come to an abrupt halt…. I’ll then take you through the full Engine Failure After Takeoff (EFATO) profile.

This tutorial will utilise the QRH using all the appropriate checklists. We will also briefly explore decision making and the communication involved in this scenario. This will then be followed by a return to Gatwick flying a single engine ILS. I will be utilising the excellent simlink feature from Navigraph.
