I believe Venomancer hard support to be one of the best picks for the 5 position in the current meta. Why? This video will explain in more detail, but here is a short version:

1. Games right now revolve around the offlane dictating the pace of your game. The offlaners look to pressure the enemy safelane towers, dive to kill the heroes, and finish off the tower.
2. The offlaner rotates middle to kill mid and take the mid tower as well.
3. The team snowballs with this advantage and map control, aggressively running at your team and finishing the game before your lineup can come online.

Whereas KotL is a great counter to this due to illuminate pushing waves and Will-o-Wisp breaking up initiations, he is reliant on his long cd ultimate to save your team. Venomancer can stop these aggressive moves with his serpent wards and passive, slowing the enemy, preventing blink daggers, and walling up the defense on your tower. Additionally, everybody is used to playing against keeper at this time; but nobody is playing venomancer 5. There is opportunity here!
