Lot of people have been asking about this so here's how I got it!
Pretty simple actually.
Not sure whether it still works and if it does - on which platforms.
You may or may not need Season Pass.
You need to buy the Mystery Box.
No mods / hacks / cheats were needed. Public solo game.

Some say the gun has been patched but I managed to get it already twice on Xbox360 so it's worth a shot! :D
Haven't tried it yet on PS3 or PC.
