How to Get the Hylian Shield - The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Walkthrough
You get the indestructible Hylian Shield from Lanayru by defeating 8 bosses consecutively in his Lightning Round (boss rush mode). You are not allowed to take any items with you other than your currently equipped shield. With that being said, if you drink a potion before starting the Lightning Round then the effects will remain. Therefore it may not be a bad idea to drink a Guardian Potion + (which makes you invincible for 3 minutes) and choose the boss you think will do the most damage to you. You can sometimes get hearts when you destroy the Imprisoned's toes and the columns in the Koloktos fight.
Boss Strategies:
#1 Moldarach (0:57): Keep your eye on the claws and dodge them when they turn red. You can damage them with either a regular swing or a Skyward Strike. Skyward Strikes do less damage, but they allow you to hit from a distance.
When both claws are destroyed you need to stab the eye on Moldarach's head. Stab it as many times as you can before he hides underneath the sand.
#2 Imprisoned Fight #1 (3:05): Attack his toes while avoiding the dark pulses of energy that appear as he moves. When all 8 toes are destroyed, run to his head and ram the spike back in. Alternatively, you can just jump straight onto his head from a higher ledge and quickly ram the spike in while he's walking.
#3 Ghirahim Fight #1 (6:01): When you start the fight, take out your sword and move it from left to right. Ghirahim may or may not follow along with his hand. When his hand no longer moves, hit him by swinging your sword from the side opposite his hand (ie if his hand is to the right then swing from the left, if his hand is on the left then swing from the right).
After enough damage he'll take out a sword. Dodge his attacks & damage him when he disappears and then reappears. If he's holding his sword horizontally then swing from either side, if he's holding it vertically then swing from the left so you hit the back of his sword. Reflecting his daggers back at him hurts him a little as well.
#4 Scaldera (7:22): When he cools down as he's chasing you up the slope, throw a bomb at him to knock him down. Throw a bomb into his mouth then do your best to hit his eye with your sword. There's more bombs at the top of the slope if you need them.
#5 Tentalus (9:41): Skyward Strike the tentacles until Tentalus appears from underneath the water, shoot his eye with an arrow, then run up to him and slash his eye like a madman. Continue this way until you're able to climb up onto the higher deck. Slash Tentalus' hair snakes until you get enough time to shoot him in the eye again and slash his eyeball out.
#6 Ghirahim Fight #2 (14:00): Start off with the same technique as fight #1 by moving your sword left and right to determine which direction to swing from. Continue attacking him this way while dodging his daggers until he takes out his 2 swords.
Dodge his attacks and swing at him when he holds his swords up and gives you an opening. When he disappears by jumping into the air, start running because otherwise he'll land right on top of you. If you successfully dodge this attack then quickly slash him before he regains his composure.
#7 Koloktos (16:10): Make Koloktos swing at you so that he hits the ground then quickly rip his arm off with the whip. When you rip off 4 of his arms, quickly run in a slash his heart. Keep doing this until he starts pulls himself out of the ground.
It's safer to remove all 6 of his arms and not just 1 like I do in the video before you go after his legs and then his heart. I was just trying to keep the fight short. If you go after his legs without removing all of his arms then make sure you're careful when you swing the Wiimote horizontally. If you accidentally swing vertically (or if the Wiimote thinks you did) then Koloktos might take the chance and damage you.
A good strategy for the Cursed Bokoblin: Get them close to each other and Z-target them. Then hit them with a horizontal Skyward Strike. It doesn't work too well if you're still Z-targeting Koloktos (as seen in the video) so make sure you're targeting the Bokoblin when you swing at them.
#8 Imprisoned Fight #2 (20:41): The Imprisoned's feet are quite a bit more dangerous in this fight. Furthermore, he really doesn't like when you jump on his head during this fight.
I recommend waiting until you launch a bomb at him when he first tries to climb the wall before attacking his toes. After ramming the spike back into his head, get to higher ground. As he's walking underneath you, hit him with a bomb to stun him, jump on his head, and ram the spike in.
At this point, he'll start sliding up the path. DO NOT waste a bomb on him when he does this. Instead, get to higher ground and wait for him to stand up. When he's walking, stun him with a bomb, jump on his head, and finish him.
