How to Import Save Files In Duckstation - Quick and Easy Guide - Fixes and Solutions
A quick guide on how to import save files within Duckstation.
I had done a previous video showing how to do this within EPSXE but was told/shown that that method does not work within Duckstation, So here is your solution.
You'll need MemCardRex and also know the location of your saves for Duckstation. This is usually located in My Documents, Duckstation and then MemCards.
Get the save your after online. It should be a GME file. Open up MemCardRex and open up the save which you just downloaded. Select SAVE AS and then change the file type to MCD and save it (Make sure the file name STAYS the same or it WONT work).
Simply take your new save which you have created (Close MemCardRex) and drag it into the Duckstation MemCard folder.
Boot up Duckstation and it should load up your save. If it does NOT load up your save automatically then you will need to go in the SAVE/LOAD option from within the game and load up the save file you just Imported.
TROUBLESHOOTING / SOLUTIONS
Q: I followed the guide but my save wont load
A: Some games are a pain in the ass with how the save files work. In order to get them TO work if the method in the video DOESNT work first time then you need to do the following.
1) Play your game first before anything else and make a save as soon as you can (For example here we will use Parasite Eve 2) and it should look something like this : Parasite Eve II (USA) (Disc 1)_1.mcd
2) Download the save file you want (In this case Parasite Eve 2 with everything unlocked and 4000BP with nightmare difficulty selected) this file should look this this : parasite-eve-ii.918.gme
3) Open MemCardRex, select the GME file, Select SAVE AS and select MCD file type. Rename it something simple like PE2 Save.
4) Select RENAME of your save you made within the game (Parasite Eve II (USA) (Disc 1)_1.mcd) and click COPY. Then select the save YOU just created (PE2 SAVE) click on rename and then Paste.
5) Drag the save which you just renamed into the Duckstation Memcard Folder. It will ask if you want to over write the exsisting file name. Say YES.
6) Load up your game and the save will now work
Q: Duckstation has a MemCardEditor but I can't get this to work correctly.
A : The memory card editor within DS is complicated and will not read certain file types.
If you downloaded a save game off the internet then that file will be in a GME format (mostly) and DS for some reason can't read GME file types within the editor.
What you'll need to do in order to use the editor is to change the file type into an MCR file type (eSPXe format) first in order for DS to read it. You can then convert that to an MCD (DS/Bleem format) which it will read.
However if your converting a GME format into an MCR format then you might as well just use memcardrex in order to convert the file type into an MCD format.
Q: Can I just change the .file name? will this work or not?
A: Yes AND No. With some save files you can just simply right click, rename and change GME to MCD (extension needs to be on) and this will work for some saves. It wont work for every save that you download but it's an option you can try.
