In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to install and uninstall programs while in Safe Mode on Windows. Safe Mode is often used for troubleshooting, and this guide will help you manage programs effectively in this environment.
Commands Used:
REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\MSIServer" /VE /T REG_SZ /F /D "Service"
net start msiserver
Several factors can impact program installations, such as security software, anti-spyware tools, startup programs, or background services. To avoid conflicts, you may need to install software in Safe Mode.
Safe Mode loads only essential services and applications, minimizing interference during installation. However, the Windows Installer doesn’t work in Safe Mode by default. To install or uninstall programs, you’ll need to run a specific msiexec command in Command Prompt.
If you try to uninstall software in Safe Mode without this command, you might see an error stating:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
Sometimes, uninstalling a program in regular mode fails. In such cases, booting into Safe Mode and using the msiexec command is necessary for proper uninstallation.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 11 & Windows 10 operating system (Home, Professional, Enterprise, Education) from all supported hardware manufactures, like Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba,Lenovo, and Samsung).
