In order to install the audio and USB drivers of the Windows 98 FE (First Edition) or Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) operating system that you installed on your computer using the VMware Workstation virtual machine program, you need to change the hardware version.
Since there is no support for the hardware of an old system you set up with VMware Workstation 16 Pro, you need to reduce the hardware compatibility of the virtual machine.
To install #Audio and #USB drivers on the #Windows98 virtual machine, download the necessary drivers from our article and then follow these steps.
Step 1: First of all, turn off the VM you set up with the IDE virtual disk type and click on the VM / Manage / Change Hardware Compatibility option from the menu.
Step 2: Select Workstation 15.x for Win98 in the hardware compatibility window, and in the next step, check the Alter this virtual machine option and complete the conversion process.
Step 3: When you run the virtual machine when some hardware is found automatically, select the CD-ROM to install their drivers and install the relevant drivers from the Win98 ISO.
Step 4: Although all drivers appear to be installed on your system, the audio device will not be working. So, install the Creative Ensoniq driver and reboot your system. Also, to fix the Waveset problem, copy the file named Eapci8m to the System location in Windows and then open the Device Manager and select the MIDI setting as 8 MB in the Create Sound device settings.
Step 5: After restarting your system, install USB Mass Storage Controller and then insert your USB flash memory into your VM. At this stage, the add new hardware wizard will open and use the location where you extracted the USB driver files in the wizard to install the driver for the corresponding hardware.
Step 6: After installing the USB Controller driver, you can now use Flash Memory or USB Portable HDD on your computer.
