Loading non Android Market apps is a relatively easy process. This is necessary to do if you are going to load apps from a store outside Google's (Like the Amazon App Store), or if you want to download .apk files you find on the internet. Normally I would say that downloading and installing .apk files you find on the net to be somewhat risky business, however you can find some great free emulators that Google has removed from the Android Market that will need to be loaded this way.

Depending on what version of Android you have:

2.x
Open the App Drawer on your device.
Open Application Settings
Select "Unknown Sources" and click "OK"

4.x
Open the App Drawer on your device.
Open Security
Select "Unknown Sources" and click "OK"

And that's it! You're ready to start loading apps from wherever you please.
