Please note: I personally use WSE2 and haven't used WSE1 in many years so I don't have first-hand experience with installing WSE1, however the install guide below should work just fine (it's from the official Warsword Conquest wiki).

WSE Install Guide:
1. Go to the game directory and rename "mb_warband" to things such as "mb_warband_old".
2. Go to the folder called "1.174 original exe for steam users" inside the Warsword Conquest folder and copy "mb_warband" into the game directory. EVEN if you are on GOG or standalone.
3. Go to the "WSE" folder inside the Warsword Conquest folder and copy all contents, except for the "WSELoaderWindowsXP" folder, into the MBWB directory.
4. (Optional: Create a shortcut of the "WSEloader" and move it to the desktop.)
Other troubleshooting steps:
1. Launch the game through Steam/GOG if applicable.
2. Open "Configure".
3. Under "Video" enable "Load Textures On Demand".
4. Set "Max. Frame Rate" to "999" (optional)
5. Close the launcher and launch the game as administrator through the WSEloader.exe or it's shortcut to play WSC.
