Locking Google Sheets is a great way to ensure that only specific users can make changes to certain sections or the entire sheet. While it's not possible to fully "lock" Google Sheets, you can restrict editing permissions to prevent unauthorized changes. This method is especially useful when collaborating with others and needing to protect critical data.

To begin locking or restricting a part of your Google Sheet, first open your browser and navigate to sheets.google.com. Once inside the document you want to protect, identify the specific cells, rows, or columns you wish to lock. This could be a specific range of data or an entire section of the sheet that you want to restrict from editing by others.

Next, select the portion of the sheet that you want to protect. After selecting the desired cells, navigate to the top menu bar and click on the "Data" option. In the dropdown menu, look for the "Protect Sheets and Ranges" option and click on it. This will open a panel on the right-hand side of the screen, where you can set up the restrictions.

Within the panel, you'll see the option to either protect an entire sheet or just a specific range. Click on the "Range" option to define the specific area of the sheet you want to lock. From here, you have two choices: you can either display a warning when someone tries to edit the protected range, or you can restrict who can edit that range altogether.

If you choose to restrict editing, you can customize who has access by selecting "Only you" or specific individuals from the drop-down list. This way, only the designated users will be allowed to make changes to the protected area. You can also choose to allow others to view the sheet but not edit it, giving you full control over who can modify the data.

Once you've set the desired restrictions, click "Done" to save the changes. From that point on, anyone who doesn't have the necessary permissions will either see a warning when they try to edit the protected range or be completely unable to make any changes, depending on the settings you chose.

Locking certain ranges in Google Sheets is a simple yet powerful way to maintain the integrity of your data while collaborating with others. This feature gives you peace of mind knowing that critical information is protected from accidental or unauthorized edits.
