Why not add some pizazz to your next do-it-yourself card project by adding a pop up effect? Christmas is an excellent time of the year to form new memories with your children while working together on a wonderful craft. Learn how to make a pop up Christmas card that will delight any child this holiday season.

Introduction
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Some people like to send their children's homemade cards to relatives. If you plan to do this, make the process easier by having everything printed out and ready to go at once. Then, you can have your child cut out the trees while you do the assembly. It should take around 6 to 12 minutes to make one card.

Step 1: Supplies
---------------------------------------------------------------------

* Green construction
paper
* Red construction paper

Scissors
Glue
Ruler
* Markers

* Green and red 3D glitter paints

Step 2: Cutting Out the Shapes
---------------------------------------------------------------------

* Fold both sheets of red construction paper in half lengthwise. Set one paper aside. It will be referred to as the background sheet.

* Along the folded edge of the other paper, measure 3 1/2 inches from each corner and mark the two points.

* Draw a 1 inch line up from the fold on both points. (Refer to the diagram.)

* Cut along the lines that you just made. Set aside.

* Print the tree pattern on the green paper.

* Now, you will cut the tree image out.

* Decorate it with glitter paint and markers.

* Let it dry completely.

Step 3: Putting it All Together
---------------------------------------------------------------------

* Fold the cut out section of the construction paper inward. (Refer to the diagram.)

* Glue your background sheet to the back of it.

* Flatten the closed card to get out any air bubbles. Clean off any excess glue and re-open.

* Decorate the inside and outside of the card with greetings.

* Finally, glue the tree to the pop up flap on the inside.

Tips and Tricks
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Make sure to allow glue to dry completely before closing the card.

Consider printing your season's greetings on the back of your construction paper before starting the project.

Explore your local craft stores such as Michaels and JoAnn Fabrics. They often have new and exciting stamps and stickers that can enhance your paper crafts.
