So Larian patched stuff and it broke how we used to make custom solo parties. It's still possible and fairly easy. Since people are often asking me, I thought I'd throw together a quick tutorial as fast as I could. It skips a little bit, I edited out some mistakes and loading times, so I could make the tutorial as fast and to the point as possible. Steps below, if you don't want to go through the video:

The only major change from what we did before, and what we have to do now is you need to close steam completely when setting this up. I believe the Larian Launcher is defaulting to existing windows of the game when you run the executable, so I think the key is bypassing that. Exiting out of steam seems the easiest way to skip the launcher.

How to steps:
1. Open up the game (remember if you select Direct X11 or Vulkan) start a direct connect multiplayer lobby, copy the key code to your clipboard.
2. Right click on Baldur's Gate 3 in steam, go to manage, browse local files
3. Exit out of steam completely (Apparently the latest patch makes this necessary)
4. In Windows Explorer got to bin, run bg3.exe if you are running Vulkan, bg3_dx11 if you're running Direct X11)
5. That opens up the game again and you can join your own multiplayer lobby with the code you copied
6. Do that two more times and you can start the game with 4 custom characters. Once you're in, have everybody but the first character quit the game until you're down to just one player.
7. Save the game and then you can load it up and control all 4 characters.

Some common problems:
1. Having four instances of BG3 running is hard on your GPU, you might need to turn your graphics way down so you don't melt your laptop.
2. It crashed once for me while doing this. Just open up a new window and try again.
3. Have players 2-4 quit the game through the menu, ALT+F4 did not work for me.
4. If your players refuse to ready up, back up in character creation and click venture forth again. My characters "unreadied" after a while somehow when I set up my custom party.
5. If you have any questions or I made a mistake or I left out an important step in my tutorial let me know.
