Pixel bashing is the process of taking bits and pieces from pre-existing pixel art and remixing it to make new pieces. It is NOT a replacement for scratch-made art, but it is a solid way to go if you need something fast or want to learn some of the most basic techniques for pixel art.
Be sure to properly license the art that you use, or at the very least get permission to remix the artwork.
