How To Move Adobe Premiere Projects
How to Move Adobe Premiere Projects
If you are looking for an easy way to move Adobe Premiere projects from one computer to another this video is for you. There are many reasons why you might want to move a project to a different machine including rendering your videos on a faster computer, delivering your part of a collaborative video to your team, or just having a complete project backup on hand just in case disaster strikes on your main editing computer.
Whatever your reasons are for needing to move an Adobe Premiere project from one Windows computer to another, this tutorial will work for you.
Within Adobe Premiere there is a project manager that allows you to collect all the files related to the current project you are working on to easily move them to another machine or location.
The steps are as follows:
1) Open the file menu in the top left corner of the program and select "Project Manager".
2) Make sure that all of your sequences are checked at the top of the project manager window (they should be checked by default).
3) In the "Resulting Project" box click on the "Collect Files and Copy to New Location" box.
4) Pick a "Destination" by clicking the "Browse" button. This can be another location on your computer, an external drive, or even a USB stick. Bear in mind that when Adobe Premiere exports this project it will create a new subfolder in the directory you specify so choose your location accordingly.
5) Over on the right side of the project manager, you have some options. The one option of interest is "Exclude Unused Clips". This option allows you to only include media that is actually used on your timeline. Not only does this make it easier to edit if you need to edit on the new machine, but it also reduces the size of the export file. By default this option is checked, but use your own discretion as to whether or not excluding clips that aren't used are appropriate for your project.
6) There is also a "Disk Space" option in the bottom left corner where you can click the "Calculate" button to determine how much space the project export will take.
7) Click the "OK" button in the bottom right corner of the project manager to complete your project export. It will take your computer some time to collect and move all the project files onto your destination folder or drive.
