Steps:

- Plug in your external hard drive.

- From the home screen of your mac, click ‘finder’ from the top left menu.

- Choose ‘settings’ from the menu that appears.

- Click ‘general’ from the top of the settings.

- Below where it says ‘new finder windows show’ change it to ‘Mac’ or ‘Macintosh HD’.

- Now open a finder window and select your external hard drive from the left sidebar.

- Open another finder window by clicking ‘file’ from the top left menu and then clicking ‘new finder window’.

- Select the ‘users’ folder.

- Then select your user account.

- Choose ‘pictures’.

- You now just need to drag and drop the photos library folder into the other finder window.

- If you have a lot of photos in your library then this may take a long time to send over.

- Your photos library is now on your external hardrive.
