Hi. I'm Max Dalton, and in this video I'm going to talk through how to name an iPhone or iPad group message chat.

All of the chat threads in the Apple Messages app can start to jumble together over time. Making matters worse is the fact that some people will be in multiple threads, making it even more likely that you'll fire a message into a group chat where it will fall into the hands of the wrong person. One way to make it more clear who you're speaking to is to give your group chats a name, rather than trying to operate from the first couple of names or phone numbers who may be in the chat. For example, you could name a group chat containing people you go and see movies with to "Movie Friends Chat." No one else will see your group name, and it will be more easily identifiable. You can assign a name to a group chat directly within the Messages app.

And now, the steps to enter a name for an iPhone or iPad group message chat.

Step 1. Tap to open the "Messages" app on your iPhone or iPad. The home screen for the Messages app appears, displaying your open conversation threads.

Step 2. Scroll down through your message threads, and then select the group chat message thread you want to assign a name to.

Step 3. Tap the blue "i" icon in the upper right corner of the screen. The Details window appears.

Step 4. Scroll down to the Name field, and then tap the blue "Enter a Group Name" text in the field. A keyboard flys up from the lower half of your screen.

Step 5. Enter the name you want to assign to this group chat, and then tap the blue "Done" button. You'll instantly see the name of the group chat changed to what you entered. You can remove the group chat name and revert to the original group chat naming convention by navigating back to the Name field and deleting the group name you entered.
