When you’re not using your Mac, you can save energy by putting it to sleep. When your Mac is in sleep, it’s turned on but consumes much less power. It takes your Mac less time to wake from sleep than it does to start up after being turned off.
There may be many moments when you want to simply turn off your Mac’s display without shutting down the entire system. For example, you may be downloading a bunch of files, or may just want a break from work, and you may want to blank out the display, without actually disturbing your workflow.
One main option that you may already use is dimming the display completely using Apple’s function keys for increasing/reducing the display brightness. While useful, this method isn’t that efficient, and there are better and quicker options to put your Mac to sleep.
To save time and prevent wear and tear on your computer, don’t turn your Mac on and off; put your Mac into Sleep mode instead. When you put your Mac to sleep, it shuts down every part of your computer, and the computer runs on a bare minimum of power. When you touch the keyboard or click the mouse button, the computer wakes up so you can use it right away.
However, you can easily change sleep time on your Mac to your liking. You can put it to sleep instantly for battery saving or privacy reasons. Alternatively, you can postpone your Mac’s sleep so that you can download files or listen to music for a long time without any disturbance.
