This video shows how to redeem a prepaid code through the Xbox App for Windows 10. Redeeming your code this way allows you to push new games to your console and make it much easier to enter in the prepaid code, since you can copy and paste the code as opposed to typing it out.

This method also allows you to redeem particular codes that normally do not work on the Xbox website. These codes include some of the older 14 day and 48 hour Gold trials.
