It’s important to periodically use the Check Disk tool to check your disk’s health. This tool scans FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS drives to identify and fix common errors by comparing the volume bitmap with the disk sectors assigned to files. However, it cannot repair corrupted data within files that appear structurally intact.
To run Check Disk from the command line, open an elevated Command Prompt and type chkdsk C: to analyze the integrity of drive C. To find and repair errors, use chkdsk /f C:. If the disk is in use, Check Disk will prompt you to schedule the scan for the next system restart. Click "Yes" to schedule the check.
