While you can choose to save your PS4 game data to Sony's Online Storage cloud automatically, there's the very real risk that there's an error and your game data doesn't get backed up. Backing your PS4 game data up to Sony's cloud manually at important points is critical if you want to take extra precautions to ensure your data is actually backed up. For anyone interested in how to back up your PS4 game data to Sony's cloud automatically, I'll link to my video about that in the description. Finally, manually saving your PS4 game data to Sony's cloud does require a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Now let's walk through the steps to save your PS4 data to Sony's Online Storage cloud manually.
Step 1. Navigate to your PlayStation 4 home screen, and then select "Library" on the home screen. Your PS4 Library screen is displayed.
Step 2. Select "Games" in the menu on the left side of the screen. All of the games in your PlayStation 4 library appear on the right side of your screen.
Step 3. Highlight the individual game where you want to move that game data to Sony's Online Storage cloud, and then click "Options" on your PS4 controller. A menu is displayed on the right side of the screen.
Step 4. Choose "Upload/Download Saved Data" in the menu. The Upload Download Saved Data screen is displayed.
Step 5. Select "Upload All" if you want to upload all of the data for this game to Sony's Online Storage cloud. An Uploading screen appears showing the progress of the data copy. After the upload is done, you'll return to the Upload Download Saved Data screen, where you'll see all of the data files for that game appear on the Online Storage side as well, indicating that they are backed up to Sony's cloud.
Alternatively, you can choose "Select and Upload" if you only want to back up specific game data to Sony's cloud. An Upload to Online Storage screen appears. Click to place a check mark next to any data you want to save to Sony's Online Storage cloud, and then click "Upload." Again, an Uploading screen appears showing the progress of the data copy. After the upload is done, you'll return to the Upload Download Saved Data screen, where you'll see the data files you selected for that game appear on the Online Storage side as well, indicating that they are backed up to Sony's cloud.
