0:54 My tips for cold emails
8:46 Reviewing my old emails
13:25 Final thoughts
At some point in our careers, all of us have used emailing as a tool to build our network and try to land jobs. Emails can be a great, low-risk way to connect with someone we may never be able to meet in person. But email etiquette isn't often discussed or taught--it's not a very glamorous subject, I guess π
A few weeks ago I needed help with a gig, and put out a job listing. Within hours I received over 80 submissions from interested composers. Reading their emails gave me a new perspective--the perspective of the person HIRING the creative. It made me realize a few things I hadn't put together when I was the one sending out emails, so I thought it best to make a video and compile my tips!
This video is a two-parter. In the first part, I discuss what I think are the essential do's and don'ts to writing a good cold email. The second part is a case study, featuring some emails I wrote earlier in my career (some successful, some not so much).
If you're looking to improve your communication skills--one of THE most important skills a creator can have--then I hope you enjoy the video! Happy composing, and have a great week ππ»
