How to Turn Off Auto-Snapping on CapCut | HTG
Turning off auto snapping in CapCut on PC is helpful when you want more control over clip placement without the software automatically aligning clips to each other. This feature, often called "main track magnet" in CapCut, can sometimes interfere when you’re trying to add gaps between clips or make precise manual adjustments on the timeline.
To disable auto snapping, first open CapCut and load your project. Once you're in the editing workspace, look to the top right area of the timeline panel. You’ll see a row of blue toggle icons—these are editing tools that control various timeline behaviors. Hover over the first icon, and you’ll see a tooltip that says “Turn off main track magnet.”
Click this icon. Once you do, the blue highlight will disappear, indicating that snapping has been disabled. Now, when you drag video or audio clips along the timeline, they will no longer automatically snap into place next to other clips. This gives you the freedom to insert spacing or move clips with finer control.
If you need to re-enable snapping later, simply click the same icon again to turn the magnet feature back on. This setting is especially useful for editors who want to experiment with timing or adjust clip flow without interference from auto-alignment.
